The primary difference is charging speed. A Level 1 EV charger uses a standard 120V outlet and is the slowest option, adding only about 3-5 miles of range per hour. A Level 2 EV charger uses 240V and charges significantly faster, adding 20-60 miles of range per hour. For most daily charging needs, a level 2 is the much more efficient choice.
The main difference between Level 2 and Level 3 chargers is speed and technology. Level 2 is AC charging, commonly found in homes and businesses for daily use. Level 3 is DC Fast Charging, typically located at public stations, capable of charging an EV to near full capacity in a very short time (e.g., 30 minutes). The level 2 EV charger installation cost varies, but a significant portion is for labor and parts. While our chargers are designed to simplify the process, we highly recommend hiring a professional, certified electrician. While our EV charger is flexible, a 30-amp breaker is typically insufficient for high-efficiency level 2 charging. To get the maximum 23kW output, your system needs to support 96A.
